One Direction’s Liam Payne has announced he’s signed a solo deal with Capitol Records, once again causing fans to worry about the boyband’s future. Liam follows former member Zayn Malik in going solo, as well as Harry Styles who also reportedly signed a deal earlier this year.
He said in a statement: "I'm really happy to have signed to such a prestigious label as Capitol Records UK. Capitol Records has an amazing history stretching right back before even Frank Sinatra and I'm really looking forward to becoming part of their story.”
Nick Raphael, president of Capitol Records UK, added: "Capitol Records UK are incredibly excited to be working with Liam. It's not often you get the chance to sign such a talented and ambitious 22 year old who has already conquered the world.”
Liam also shared the news on Twitter, writing: “Happy to have signed to @CapitolUK. They have an amazing history of artists, I hope I can follow in their footsteps.” The 22-year-old then tried to reassure his fans by adding: “One direction will always be my home and family but I'm very excited to see what this chapter brings.”
Since One Direction announced their hiatus Liam hasn't been short of attention, thanks to his high profile relationship with Cheryl. Cheryl is currently said to be working on her new album and earlier this week it was reported that Liam had joined her in the studio.
A source told Heat magazine that Cheryl was using the home recording equipment in Liam’s Surrey mansion to create new tracks. ''She's thinking with Liam behind her, she can make a more grown-up album, work on a few collaborations - maybe with Liam's very high-profile mates - and spend time in LA too,” the source added.
